  1. README FIRST
  2.  
  3. The NetWare Migration Utility v1.0 available on NetWare Express 
  4. and NetWire, are the first in a series of releases. This utility
  5. is intended to make your upgrade from NetWare v2.1x or v2.2 to
  6. v3.11 easier. The future versions of the migration utility will 
  7. allow you to go from v2.x or v3.x to v3.11 or v4.0.
  8.  
  9. Documentation is available both in ASCII text and default postscript 
  10. formats.  The ASCII documentation is compressed in the MIGRATE.ZIP file 
  11. and the postscripts are in the file MANUALPS.ZIP and must be downloaded 
  12. separately.

  14. Release Notes
  15. -------------
  16.  
  17. A)   Make sure that the shell you use (NET3, NET4, NET5, or 
  18.      NETX.COM) is version 3.0a or later. The latest versions 
  19.      of the shell are available either on NetWire or NetWare 
  20.      Express.
  21.  
  22. B)   Users on the source server whose accounts are locked   
  23.      because their
  24.  
  25.      1)  Account balance has fallen below the low credit    
  26.          limit;
  27.  
  28.      2)  Intruder Detection logins have been used up;
  29.  
  30.      3)  Grace logins have expired,
  31.  
  32.      may find that after migration, these situations are    
  33.      preserved on the destination server. These users can't 
  34.      login. We recommend that you review the users on the   
  35.      source server and resolve the above listed situations  
  36.      prior to the migration.

  38. C)   If you use the Migration Utility with NetWare Name     
  39.      Service, you can
  40.  
  41.      1)  Migrate from a domain server to a non-domain       
  42.          server.
  43.  
  44.          No special procedure is required. Use the         
  45.          Across-the-Wire migration option as documented.
  46.  
  47.      2)  Migrate from a non-domain server to a domain       
  48.          server.
  49.  
  50.          The destination server (the NNS server) must be    
  51.          removed from its domain before the migration takes 
  52.          place. 
  53.  
  54.          a. Remove the destination server from its domain.
  55.  
  56.             Follow the instructions under "Delete domain    
  57.             servers" on page 101 of the "Name Service"      
  58.             manual.
  59.  
  60.          b. Run the migration utility as documented for the
  61.             Across-the-Wire option.
  62.  
  63.          c. If data files were migrated, reinstall the NNS  
  64.             utilities on the destination server.
  65.          d. Add the source server back into the domain.
  66.  
  67.             Follow the instructions on page 98 of the "Name 
  68.             Service" manual.
  69.  
  70.          e. Resynchronize the domain.
  71.  
  72.             Follow the instructions on page 103 of the "Name
  73.             Service" manual.
